What to do when your subscription box fulfilment is unusual

If you’d prefer to work with a fulfilment centre, but your subscription box pack is more complicated than a straight pick-and-pack, how do you handle that without doing it in-house / having your own warehouse?

This week’s Subscription Box Q&A question is from Laura - and it’s a juicy one around working with fulfilment centres when your packing of boxes is a little different from normal:

We design and produce everything that goes into our boxes so aren't really able to source a pick and pack operator to help us with fulfilment. We still pack everything ourselves (paying someone else a freelance rate to come and pack with us once a month) but we really don't want to.

For subscription boxes like us who design and are mostly print based, how do we look to outsource our packing process or scale up operations with an internal packing team cost effectively?

This is a great question - and one that can be tricky to see around: you don’t know what you can do until you know, right?

Well, there’s a few options -

- DIY (which you might not want to do!)

- Fulfilment Centre (which might not seem possible)

- Hybrid (this is where it gets more interesting!)
